Mapping Houston History is a GIS (geographic information system) grant project collecting 1,000 historically significant points of interest that will be geo-referenced on historical maps. Houston Public Library staff and community members are working together to identify these points to tell the story of Houston's history in a visually exciting format. The Houston Public Library is also working with the City of Houston GIS Department to create the interactive map component. Each point on the map will link to digitized archival material on the Houston Area Digital Archives. Many of these points will also be part of exhibits here on Mapping Houston History. This project is made possible by a grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).
